Inspired by a chance visit to Ronnie Scotts to see Gill Scott Heron, Matt picked up his first saxophone at the age of 19. Frustrated up with the 9 - 5 life, Matt would spend every free moment teaching himself how to play by listening to old jazz records. Matt paid is dues playing with various bands around the West Midlands before moving to London to further his jazz studies. Matt sought out the top saxophonists from the UK and USA to study with.

As a relatively late starter it was and still is necessary for Matt to practice 3-4 hour per day.

"After over 20 years of playing I still haven’t scratched the surface as far as playing jazz is concerned"
