Children

Lessons for children are designed to be fun, engaging, and fully immersive, covering all key aspects of music including basic music theory, rhythm, and creative expression.

Each session is interactive and tailored to the student’s interests—encouraging them to learn their favourite tunes, explore improvisation, and develop confidence in their musical abilities. We also incorporate singing and percussion to help build a strong sense of rhythm and pitch in a playful, well-rounded way.

Students have the option to work towards ABRSM exams in classical or jazz saxophone, which can be a great motivator and milestone in their musical journey. These accredited exams contribute UCAS points and can also count towards The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. Alternatively, students are welcome to play simply for the joy of music and personal development.

Adults

Adult lessons cover all the essential aspects of saxophone playing—tone, technique, rhythm, and musicality—while offering a personalised approach tailored to your goals and musical preferences.

Whether you're a complete beginner or returning to the instrument after a break, lessons are designed to be enjoyable, flexible, and encouraging. You’ll have the chance to learn your favourite songs, explore improvisation, and develop your own style. If reading music isn’t your thing, that’s no problem—there are plenty of techniques to help you play intuitively and by ear.

Adults can also choose to work towards ABRSM exams in classical or jazz saxophone if they’d like a goal to work towards, or simply play for fun and relaxation.

There are also opportunities to connect and play with other learners at a similar level, whether through informal sessions, small ensembles, or community music events—making music social as well as rewarding.

I teach from my home in Stratford-upon-Avon, where students can enjoy relaxed, one-to-one saxophone lessons in a comfortable setting. I'm equally happy to travel to you if preferred, and I’ll also be teaching from Fargo Village in Coventry, offering even more flexibility.

A trial lesson can be arranged, which includes the option to borrow a saxophone for a small fee. Instruments are available to rent on a monthly basis, and from time to time, I also have saxophones available for sale.

Saxophone Coaching

What is Saxophone Coaching?

Saxophone coaching is a unique programme designed for saxophonists with at least two years of playing experience. Unlike regular tuition, coaching offers a comprehensive approach that focuses on your individual goals and development as a musician. This programme is ideal for saxophonists who feel they have reached a plateau in their progress, those striving to move towards a professional level of improvisation, or players who wish to refine their tone and technique to the next level.

Coaching is delivered in six-week segments. After an initial consultation, a tailored programme will be created specifically for you—based on your current repertoire, skill level, improvisation style, and, most importantly, your personal objectives. The structure is straightforward and manageable, ensuring steady, achievable progress.

As part of the coaching programme, I make myself available to students between sessions. If you have any questions or encounter any difficulties with your current assignment, you can simply give me a call or send me an email.

Throughout the programme, I will also ask you to send recordings and videos of your progress so that I can provide support and constructive feedback.

Upon completing your initial six-week programme, you’ll have the option to review your progress and begin a new, refreshed programme focused on your next set of goals.

I have helped many saxophonists reach their ambitions through my coaching programme, including guiding several musicians towards becoming professional performers. The success of the programme lies in its student-centred approach—focusing on the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all method. The six-week structure is ideal for maintaining focus and absorbing new material effectively.

If you’d like more information, please contact me to arrange a free 15-minute online consultation.
