J-Sonics back at The 606
A powerful 7 piece "Groove/Latin" band, J-Sonics describe their music as an "exciting mix of memorable originals and re-tooled jazz, Brazilian, Afro and rare-groove tunes". Led by bass guitarist and composer Mike Flynn (Paula Rae Gibson), J-Sonics features the powerful horn section of saxophonist Matt Telfer (Tony Bennett, Chuck Loeb) and trumpeter Andy Davies (The Ronnie Scott All Stars, Nigel Kennedy, Jamie Cullum), alongside guitarist Clement Regert (Liane Carroll), drummerGabor Dornyei (Thunder Duo ) and percussionist Jon Newey (Chris Jagger Band). Stunning Italian-born vocalist Marta Capponi moved to London in 2012 and has made quite an impression since that time, bringing multilingual sophistication and virtuosic sensuality to the wide variety of jazz-funk, Latin, Brazilian and jazz that forms the core of the band’s repertoire. The band have established a significant reputation as exciting live performers with gigs at prestigious London venues such as Pizza Express Dean Street and Hideaway as well as appearances at a number of high profile festivals, including Love Supreme, the London Latin Jazz Festival and sold-out shows at the EFG London Jazz Festival. Their debut album, “Different Orbits”, was released in 2015 to considerable acclaim. An exciting new band for us here at the Club and highly recommended.
